BUSINESS NEWS

  • Newsroom Ventures acquired Pine Bluff Commercial today and plans to launch a weekly print edition (first print expected to be 12 pages) on Friday. The company said it would keep current staff and invest in growth while sale terms were not disclosed.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lakeport Plantation offers visitors an honest look at Arkansas’ antebellum history by revealing detailed exhibits on its owner and enslaved individuals. Local journalist Jack Schnedler (retired features editor) helps bring the site’s story to life.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hendrix College in Conway will hold graduation on May 16, 2026 in the gym after turf renovations forced the ceremony indoors and halved guest seating. Seniors worry the plan limits tickets and ADA access (the event is split into two parts) even as officials say more families can attend.  THV 11

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Conservation warns residents in Arkansas as black bears wake from winter sleep this spring (reminding people to secure trash, pet food, and other attractants) to prevent dangerous encounters.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas TV Foundation set up the PBS DUES FUND to cover future PBS dues after a March 12 AETN Commission meeting delayed disaffiliation of Arkansas TV. Donations are tax deductible and will be refunded if the station severs PBS ties.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • During SUDC awareness month, an Arkansas mother shared her story after her 6-year-old son passed away unexpectedly — a rare tragedy that has deeply affected local families. She will host a benefit baseball tournament soon to honor him and raise funds for scholarships for senior athletes.  THV 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • No. 9 Arkansas softball beat Florida with a walk-off home run by Dakota Kennedy to secure its fourth consecutive series win at Bogle Park in Fayetteville on Sunday, March 29.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek will continue as chair of the College Football Playoff selection committee for the 2026-27 season. He took the role midseason in 2025 after Mack Rhoades resigned and the committee added Gus Malzahn, Jeff Tedford, and Bryan Maggard as new members.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Former Southern Miss players Eddie Hicks and Deron Wilson are now defensive backs coaches for Arkansas football under coach Ryan Silverfield — they plan to rebuild the secondary using lessons learned from their college days.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
