COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Van held a fundraiser today at their warehouse in South Little Rock to raise funds for community help and clear out unused items. The non-profit plans to open a permanent thrift store soon.  ABC 7

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In southwest Pulaski County, construction at Providence Park village is underway as a 12,000-square-foot facility will soon be placed as the first vertical building in a 50-acre project planned to provide permanent housing for up to 400 chronically homeless residents. Officials say additional structures will be built to complete the community development in the coming months.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Catherine Lamberg resigned as deputy director of the Little Rock housing authority after a little over seven months of work—she said the board’s behavior made it impossible for her to continue.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Following a 9–0 win last night, Arkansas will face Vanderbilt today in Nashville at 2 p.m.—sophomore right-hander Gabe Gaeckle, looking to rebound after a brief outing last week, starts on the mound—and junior right-hander Cody Bowker will pitch for Vanderbilt.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The second-ranked University of Arkansas baseball team won a 6—4 extra-inning game Saturday at Hawkins Field to clinch its first road series win against No. 13 Vanderbilt since 2010. The team will seek a series sweep today at 1 p.m. Central on Sunday.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • In a race, early leaders Cornucopia and Speed King built an eight-length lead in the backstretch—only to see a challenger mount a comeback and claim the win. The surprising finish shifted the race's outcome.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The 45th Annual Capital City Classic 10K took place today in Little Rock and drew over 1,000 runners (it reached this mark for the second consecutive year), with the top five finishers in each category receiving prize money. A kids one-mile race was held and every participant received a medal and a t-shirt (a gift from organizers).  ABC 7
