COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The William F. Laman Public Library in North Little Rock will host its Free Prom Dress Shop from April 10-14 to offer local teens ages 13-18 a free prom gown for upcoming events — marking the third year of the initiative.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Firefighters and community members gathered at the capital today to honor those who died in the line of duty. The ceremony provided a solemn tribute that united local agencies and residents in remembrance of their service.  THV 11
  • The Arkansas Autism Foundation will host its free 2026 Autism Festival and Walk on Saturday, April 4 (9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) at War Memorial Stadium, where families can enjoy an egg hunt, field activities, refreshments and a one-mile fun walk to raise autism awareness.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Norris Church Mailer, who grew up in Atkins, became a model, actress, and writer after moving to New York following a chance meeting with Norman Mailer in Russellville; she later published novels and a memoir that reflect her Arkansas roots and cultural journey.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will change water-control practices at green-tree reservoirs to boost duck hunting and forest health. Updated flooding cycles and timber cuts are planned for the upcoming season to help restore these vital hunting areas.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters statewide will decide this November on two amendments that aim to improve education and protect direct democracy. The Educational Rights Amendment would require accountability for schools using taxpayer dollars (while the Ballot Measure Rights Amendment safeguards ballot initiatives) as diverse groups back both measures.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Dr. Stacy Smith-Foley of The Breast Center at CARTI said women starting their annual mammograms at 40 may benefit from contrast-enhanced mammography (an advanced screening tool) if they have dense tissue and other risk factors.  ABC 7

SPORTS NEWS

  • Renegade dashed past Silent Tactic to win the 90th Arkansas Derby on Saturday, March 28 at Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort in Hot Springs before a record crowd of over 73,000. Irad Ortiz Jr. rode the horse and Todd Pletcher earned his sixth Derby win.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • During the Clyde Hart Classic on Friday and Saturday in Waco, Texas, the Arkansas women’s track team recorded a world-leading 1,600 relay time of 3:22.06 while several athletes set personal, national, and facility records.   • The No. 8 Razorbacks shot 1-under par to move into second place at the Clemson Invitational in Sunset, S.C., with junior Maria Jose Marin posting a 71. The team is scheduled to tee off Sunday (9:10 a.m. to 9:50 a.m.) with Florida, Vanderbilt and Ohio State.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Local high school baseball teams competed in tournaments today — Booneville, Greenwood, Harrison, and Hot Springs Lakeside secured wins at events such as the Joe T.
