CRIME NEWS

  • On March 15, the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office arrested Cedric Powell for the murder of Ashley Humphrey— a 37-year-old Little Rock woman last seen on February 21 and reported missing on February 26.  THV 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Macy Brummal, a 16-year-old sophomore at Rogers Heritage High, is the only Arkansas student chosen for Carnegie Hall’s 2025 National Youth Orchestra, which will rehearse in July—perform a New York concert on July 20—and then tour Asia. Laconya Isaac was appointed principal of Joe T. Robinson High for the 2025-26 school year after a special board meeting replaced interim principal Michelle Camp.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Will Jones, prosecuting attorney for the Sixth Judicial District, has modernized his office by switching to a digital file system and launching a law enforcement portal that sped up case management and helped cut homicides by over 50 percent in Little Rock in 2024—he also created a new unit to address violent crime and brought on an experienced juvenile public defender to lead youth intervention efforts.   • The Arkansas Department of Transportation is replacing the old brick facade at its central office in Little Rock with exterior insulation and finish system panels. Workers began on Friday, March 14, 2025 and the project is expected to take about one year.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Legislative committees will review Gov. Sanders' proposed pay plan overhaul for more than 22,000 executive branch employees — and a bill to change how public utilities finance strategic investments — as discussions begin this week.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Arkansas Department of Emergency Management released safety tips after tornadoes hit Northeast Arkansas on Friday night. Residents are advised to reserve phone calls for emergencies—use text messages and social media to contact family while staying clear of fallen power lines and following updates from local sources.  ABC 7
