  • Members of the Church of the Living God held a remembrance for the 1959 fire that killed 21 boys, meeting Saturday at Haven of Rest cemetery & watching a play in Wrightsville that retold the boys' stories to help ensure future generations remember the tragedy.  THV 11

CULTURE NEWS

  • Faye Hallum (99) grew up in the Arkansas Delta and started crocheting at 16. She continues to create unique pieces that find homes far beyond her local community.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Wildwood Park for the Arts will host its 15th-anniversary Lanterns festival on Apr. 16 from 6-9 p.m., Apr. 17 from 6-10 p.m., Apr. 18 from 4-10 p.m. and Apr. 19 from 4-9 p.m. The festival offers global food, music and a Fairytale Forest for children.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After four preliminary rounds Friday and Saturday and a final round Saturday night, Conway High School’s mock trial team won the state competition and will represent the state at a national event in Des Moines in May (school officials confirmed this).  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Anglers fishing public waters can join the Legacy Lunker program & donate bass that weigh 10 lbs or more to help AGFC launch its new trophy bass spawning initiative.  THV 11

  • Experts at The Breast Center at CARTI in Little Rock say that annual mammograms remain the best tool to catch breast cancer early, despite misleading online claims about risk-based screenings, and urge women to consult their doctors for personalized plans + timely care.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Arkansas-Little Rock men's basketball team secured their tournament spot with an 89-70 win over Southern Indiana at the Jack Stephens Center on Saturday. They will face No. 6 Lindenwood in the opening round at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Ford Center.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The No. 9 Arkansas men’s golf team will host a 54-hole Cabo Collegiate today at the Twin Dolphin Club in Los Cabos, Mexico + 15 teams including top-25 competitors will compete with medalists earning an exemption to play in November’s World Wide Technology Championship.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas men's track & field team won its 25th SEC indoor championship yesterday in College Station, Texas with 111.2 points while the women's team ended an 11-title streak by finishing second with 73 points behind Florida.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Runners will complete the Little Rock Marathon with heavy, themed medals that will add nearly three pounds to their finish as they race today on La Harpe Boulevard.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
