COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Central Arkansas Soup Sunday in March will offer guests a selection of soups, stews & sweets from top local restaurants and chefs to benefit Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families.  THV 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Jacksonville North Pulaski School District urged parents Wednesday to ask their children about troubling bus driver interactions while it investigated allegations involving a staff member. Officials said tips could be sent via the district's hotline email or phone.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Big Dam Bridge will close from Mar. 9 to Mar. 13 for a routine inspection, as stated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. No traffic will be allowed (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) during these hours.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wisconsin lawmakers passed on Thursday, Feb. 19 a measure to extend postpartum Medicaid coverage for new mothers, leaving Arkansas as the only state without full-year support. They expect the governor to sign it soon as part of a broader legislative package.  ABC 7

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas track and field holds its final qualifier today at Randal Tyson Track Center at 2:30 p.m. as the teams prepare for the SEC Indoor Championships Feb. 26-28 plus the NCAA Indoor Championships Mar. 13-14.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas basketball suffered a double-overtime loss to Alabama on Wednesday at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala. A key 3-pointer by Houston Mallette pushed the Crimson Tide ahead — leaving fans reflecting on a hard-fought contest.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Olympic Gold Medalist Brandon Slay is moving to Springdale to launch the G1 Training Center for youth and high school wrestlers and to serve as Executive Director of SportsLife Wrestling (a faith-based leadership organization). The facility is expected to open in April to supplement local wrestling programs in Northwest Arkansas.  ABC 7
  • Arkansas freshman point guard Darius Acuff scored a career-high 49 points and recorded 5 assists, 5 rebounds, 1 block and a steal on Wed., Feb. 18 at Coleman Coliseum (playing in a boot) to break the Razorbacks’ rookie record (totaling 579 points).  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • Arkansas baseball coach Dave Van Horn said right fielder Kuhio Aloy, who left last Saturday’s TCU game with hamstring tightness, is improving and may return to play against Xavier this weekend — he showed progress in practice with a 90% effort in his workout.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
