COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Saturday, the Rotary Club held its 4th Annual Pancake Breakfast at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, where community members enjoyed pancakes and coffee to support the church's food pantry for families facing food insecurity. Organizers aimed to raise over $2,000 to boost local outreach programs.  ABC 7
  • The Little Rock Zoo announced today that its oldest gorilla Catherine died at 42 from heart failure complications; she joined the zoo in 2004 and survived a stroke in 2020.  ABC 7
  • Local teens received free prom outfits when R.I.S.E. by Respectfully Social hosted the 4th Annual Hannah’s Prom Closet on Saturday, offering a no-cost shopping event designed to ease prom season stress and honor a late member’s daughter.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local fans gathered at the Arkansas Statehouse Convention Center on Sunday for the second and final day of the Little Rock Anime Festival.   • A group of parents will begin advising the Jacksonville/North Pulaski School District superintendent this spring (following a petition filed by concerned parents) to help improve decision-making in the district.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission released its final aerial waterfowl survey from late January across the Delta, River Valley, and southwest — reporting duck counts significantly below January 2025 levels amid widespread dry conditions.  THV 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Census Bureau data show that Arkansas’ population grew last year at its slowest pace in five years — as fewer international arrivals and more deaths than births drove the change — which could affect how local services plan for the future.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • A Riverdale property was sold to Hope Church of Little Rock for $4 million at 1600 Brookwood Drive & the deed was recorded between Jan. 5 and Jan. 9.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Arkansas gymnastics team scored a season-high 197.700 at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth on Sunday, finishing second behind Oklahoma. Three gymnasts tied program records as they prepare to face Alabama on Friday (their next meet).  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Razorbacks beat Akron 21 to 3 in a run rule game lasting five innings to finish the Kickin' Chicken Classic in Conway. Arkansas softball posted its second-most runs in team history and will play five games next weekend at the States Up Invitational in San Marcos, Texas.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • The Arkansas women's basketball team lost 75-69 to the Gators on Sunday at Florida, narrowing the gap to four points with 31 seconds remaining. Coach Kelsi Musick said the Razorbacks showed tighter play and will prepare to face Ole Miss Thursday at 8 p.m.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
