COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Amid snow and ice, shelters in Little Rock continue serving the community with meals and a safe refuge today. The Van will shift to an overnight shelter Tuesday — local donors such as Texas Roadhouse have stepped in with food donations.  ABC 7
  • Utility companies statewide are working today to restore power lost after a winter storm. Crews are focused on reconnecting homes and businesses in affected communities.  THV 11
  • Local Jeep enthusiasts from the 501 Jeep Club helped essential workers over the icy weekend by driving healthcare staff safely to and from work. At least six medical professionals reached their workplaces thanks to their community support.  ABC 7

  • Heavy snow and sleet caused an awning at the Little Rock Yacht Club to collapse today after the weight also caved in nearby rooftops.  THV 11

  • Fabulous Finds Antiques & Design received its license on Jan. 20 for its new location at 2905 Cantrell Road in Little Rock, joining other local businesses with approvals this week.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Nineteen Little Rock residents filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection on Jan. 16, including Alexander Byron K. New from 7524 Rudolph Road.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Sunday, nearly 170 Arkansas National Guardsmen helped state police on I-30 by removing stranded motorists from icy ditches and directing traffic; the team, activated Friday, assisted dozens of vehicles.  ABC 7

HEALTH NEWS

  • A report from the United Health Foundation this month shows Arkansas fell to 49th in national health rankings and was marked the second unhealthiest state after scoring in the bottom 10 on nearly half the measures studied.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas men's basketball earned an 85-81 win versus LSU on Saturday as freshman Darius Acuff Jr. scored 31 points with five assists during a late rally that put the Hogs in a three-way SEC tie for second place.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
