COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Conway Corp is preparing for an incoming winter storm today by stocking supplies & coordinating with city-owned utilities to respond if outages occur. The company will address power, water, and communications needs during the storm.  THV 11
  • Little Rock Zoo is closed today through Monday as zookeepers stayed overnight to set up generators and extra warm bedding for animals facing extreme weather (ensuring all have access to night houses). The zoo will reopen when road conditions are safe.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage wrapped filming Best Pancakes in the County in Little Rock for a movie about a deadly standoff at a rural diner — release details are expected soon.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Arkansas School for the Deaf and Blind topped off its new building by placing the final beam in the roof—a milestone in the facility’s construction. Further work is planned in the coming weeks.  THV 11

  • Hayden Balgavy and Karen Fuller hosted Arkansas's morning headlines on Jan. 22, explaining how to stream THV11 on mobile and providing key details about the incoming winter storm for local viewers.  THV 11

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Arkansas State Police advise drivers to stay off the road during a heavy winter storm this weekend to reduce accidents and keep routes clear for first responders. Those who must travel should slow down and increase following distance (911 is available for emergencies).  ABC 7
  • Mayor Frank Scott Jr. announced in his annual (State of the City) address that officials aim to raise $30 million by 2030 to improve parks. The plan will boost local recreation opportunities.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • North Little Rock is set to open its warming center at 2700 Willow Street Friday evening as a safety measure against dangerously cold temperatures this weekend. The center will offer warm meals and shelter for residents and pets (blankets and hygiene products are still needed) as city crews work together on safety.  ABC 7

  • Cabot High School hired Lance Clark as the football coach after five seasons with Marion, while Southwest names Cameron Murray as its head coach pending board approval.
