- ➤ Little Rock’s Dunbar Community Center shelter (1001 W. 16th St) will open at 8 p.m., and North Little Rock’s shelter (2700 N. Willow St) will open at 6 p.m. Saturday to offer pet-friendly overnight refuge from extreme cold with lows near 19°F and gusty winds. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ Mosaic Templars Cultural Center is launching an MLK Challenge to honor Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy, inviting community members to join reflective activities (more details will be shared soon) at the historic venue. THV 11

- ➤ Arkansas lawmakers approved an extra $32 million for the Educational Freedom Account program on Friday + total funding now reaches roughly $309.4 million to serve about 44,100 students in their first year of universal eligibility. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
- ➤ Third grader Alex Chen (Don Roberts Elementary) won first prize at the district-wide spelling bee held Friday morning at Southwest High School. He will face his sister Sara in the upcoming Pulaski County spelling bee scheduled for late February. Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

- ➤ Arkansas animal health officials are tracking rising bird flu cases impacting commercial poultry farms and backyard flocks as wild migratory birds spread the virus. - ➤ John Howse IV, a transfer safety from Middle Tennessee, committed to Arkansas football last Friday after an official Fayetteville visit; he stands (6-1, 194 pounds) and logged 13 tackles in 2025 to become the eighth defensive back for the team.
