  • The outdoors calendar shows Ducks Unlimited events scheduled from Jan. 17 to Feb. 27 at venues including Brinkley Convention Center and Embassy Suites in Little Rock.   • Winter Jam returns Friday at Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock for a night of Christian pop and praise — NewSong will perform, continuing a local music tradition that began in 2008 and evolved from NewSong’s original January Jam in Greenville.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mills University Studies High School held a financial reality fair on Wednesday morning where seniors used budget sheets to simulate real-life money decisions at the indoor basketball court. Telcoe Federal Credit Union and the Pulaski County Special School District planned additional fairs at three other high schools later this year.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Arkansas State Parks will conduct a 315-acre prescribed burn Tuesday through Wednesday at Pinnacle Mountain State Park to reduce vegetation and restore native plants, with trained personnel igniting at 9 a.m. weather permitting; some trails will be closed while the Visitor Information Center remains open (check updates before visiting).  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today at 7 p.m., UALR will face Eastern Illinois at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock. UALR's Johnathan Lawson, who averaged 21.5 points in the last two wins, was named Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Little Rock anglers can now donate bass weighing 10 pounds or more under the AGFC’s new Legacy Lunker program (soft launched in 2025) to improve local bass genetics. The program is expected to boost competitive fishing in the area.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
