COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Little Rock’s Board of Directors approved another year of the Bridge to Work program, paying homeless individuals $12 per hour for cleanup work around the city. Managed by Canvas Community Church, the program cleared 192 sites last year and connected participants with housing, medical, and mental health services.  ABC 7

CULTURE NEWS

  • In a look back to 1912, an Arkansas Postcard Past feature shows three young men posing with motorcycles near the old arsenal building in modern-day MacArthur Park, including Homer Adkins, a pharmacist who later became governor and was nicknamed Holy Homer.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Arkansas Department of Education is requesting $32 million to fund Education Freedom Accounts for the 2025-26 school year so over 44,000 students can choose private school tuition (lawmakers will review the request Tuesday with further debate on Jan. 16).  THV 11

  • The state education department needs additional funding to support education freedom accounts that help families pay for private schools & homeschool supplies.  THV 11

  • Brooke Buckner presents Arkansas’s top news from Jan. 9, highlighting school districts working to keep kids healthy. Viewers can stream THV11 on their phones by downloading the app (available for smartphones).  THV 11
  • The Blood Institute in Little Rock is urgently asking for blood donations since banks hold less than a day's supply. Executive Director Lindsey Beaver said all blood types are needed & first-time donors are encouraged to help meet hospital demands.  ABC 7

  • Tiffanee Miller-Stroud, who lost her husband to cancer in 2021, now runs The Vogue Veil bridal boutique in Cabot (honoring his memory) and offers local brides a new way to celebrate special moments.  THV 11
