  • Entergy Arkansas will host in-person customer care events starting Monday, Jan. 5 at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds in Little Rock and in Camden, El Dorado, & Magnolia where customers can get help with LIHEAP, billing questions & energy-saving tips with no appointment needed.  ABC 7
  • NAACP Drew County Branch is holding its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration with a community cleanup on Jan. 10 at Jordan Park, a youth showcase on Jan. 18 at Revival Center Church, and a day-long summit on Jan. 19 at the Sadie Johnson Building featuring keynotes and empowerment sessions.  ABC 7

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Beef prices are set to rise 5 to 6 percent in 2026 as supply tightens amid low herd levels, which will likely drive up steak costs. Tyson Foods will cut processing capacity, while Arkansas cattle farmers use heifer retention (keeping my cows in the pasture) to manage limited supply.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

  • Hundreds of students at Murrell Taylor Elementary in Jacksonville are getting a head start on their future through the Grow program + which builds essential skills today.  THV 11
  • The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund is accepting applications from single parents for Spring 2026 classes in Little Rock. Applicants must apply by Feb. 1 at aspsf.org/scholarships and meet academic and income requirements (scholarships range from $400 to $1,600 and include mentoring and workshops to support essential needs).  ABC 7

FINANCE NEWS

  • Representatives from Entergy Arkansas will spend next week offering on-site bill assistance — a service aimed at answering billing questions and supporting residents in managing energy bills.  THV 11

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new law expanding weight-loss options in Arkansas has been enacted, prompting hospitals to prepare for an expected surge in patient visits. The measure is designed to improve access to weight management care for residents across the state.  THV 11

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arkansas Razorbacks coach Ryan Silverfield and his staff have opened the NCAA transfer portal today, and official visits are set through Jan. 16 as prospects like LSU freshman Cauris Curne and Slippery Rock’s Kanye Thompson head to Fayetteville for evaluations.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
  • UALR women’s basketball defeated Tennessee Tech 51-44 on Thursday at the Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock. The win ended the opponent’s 20-game conference winning streak and marked the team’s third victory in their last four contests.  Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
